Hits and Misses from the Oscar after-parties

I love awards season because I LOVE a red carpet.  Truth be told:  I don’t go to the movies often.  I usually have no idea who gave the best performance or which movie will carry the night…nor do I care.  I really only watch to see what everyone is wearing, not just to the show, but to all the after-parties!  Here are, in my humble opinion, the hits and misses of the night.

BEST DRESSED @ THE VANITY FAIR AFTER PARTY

This would have to be a tie between Lily Collins and Georgina Chapman.  If someone had described Lily Collins‘ dress to me (“it’s like a sheer-illusion blue lace at the top, long-sleeved, with a sparkling blue vertical striped bottom”) I wouldn’t have pictured THIS.  GAH!  Amazing!  With the hair and the earrings…perfection!

My love for Georgina Chapman knows no bounds.  She looks FLAWLESS!  And this dress is so versatile!  On her, styled this way, it is the ultimate red carpet gown, but styled differently, it would make an exquisite wedding gown.  But on her, it doesn’t read “bridal” at all!  And her makeup, per usual, is pitch perfect.  Love love love her.

BLACK & WHITE BEAUTIES

Diane Kruger looks lovely in this structured black & white print, and I adore Natalie Portman in that cut of dress.  Nina Dobrev‘s dress looks almost like brocade, and the neckline is just stunning on her.  And Rose Byrne, with a different shoe (maybe it’s the photograph, but they’re reading Payless dye-ables from here), would be PERFECTION.

THE NUDES

Jessica Chastain SHUT.IT.DOWN. in her nude-toned Armani Prive…and the red lip was genius!  Made the look.

And then there was Olivia Munn, who I normally LOVE…but between the hue of the dress and the cut…it read more “naked” than “nude” and just didn’t work for me.  I don’t know if it was the severe up-do, or the way the beading on the dress read slightly muscular…regardless, it was a miss.

A LITTLE DECOLLETAGE…OR A LOT OF CLEAVAGE…

Loving this cut on Nicole Richie!  Appropriately sexy…

…unlike Heidi Klum.  I hope she bought some stock in double-sided tape!  Yikes!  That’s a lot of the ladies!

TO BEAD…OR NOT TO BEAD…

The color, the cut, the low side bun…love.  Emma Roberts looks simply lovely!

Oh Alessandra Ambrosio.  I have no words.  At least, not nice ones.  I hate it when bad styling happens to good people 😦  That dress just reads costume and it is not her fault.

HONORABLE MENTION

Kourtney Kardashian looks LOVELY in red.  Perfectly styled.  (As for Kim…Holy pregnancy boobs, Batman!  She looks wonderful, but I would have picked a neckline and possibly a cut that didn’t emphasize the ample bosom quite so much…)

And this cut and color is perfection on Kate Bosworth.  (Sidebar:  I’m concerned.  Is she ill?  It’s not as noticeable at the Vanity Fair party, but there’s a pic of her from Chanel’s pre-Oscar dinner looking positively skeletal. Heartbreaking.  I hope it was just bad lighting or an unflattering angle, and everything is ok!  She’s so talented!)

A SWING AND A MISS 😦

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, I’m absolutely convinced, is one of the most beautiful women on the planet, and though I love the color, there’s something about this look that isn’t working for me.  I’m not sure if it’s the choker combined with the over the shoulder neckline…it just reads very Southern Belle to me, and not in a good way…

Oh Leslie Mann.  Oscar night is one of the biggest nights for fashion and you went with a fancy kaftan?  No.  Just no.

MVP

Amy Adams deserves special recognition for knocking it out of the park not once but TWICE!  Her Oscar gown was perfection (take note Rosie Huntington-Whiteley!  This is how you do tiered silk!)

…and then she turned it out once again in this silver stunner.  Standing ovation!

  1. Great choices and comments. I also loved Nicole Kidman’s Oscar dress and despised every dress Anne Hathaway wore (though she deserve her Oscar!).
