review policy

Books:

My goal is to review books of literary merit, regardless of publication date, and provide informal, personal, intelligent and honest reviews.

I would LOVE to read: literary fiction, historical fiction, short story collections, biography, nonfiction (topics: art, architecture, fashion, the environment), and creative non-fiction (memoir, travelogue, etc.).

I will probably HATE: romance, chick lit, most fantasy, thrillers, sci-fi, paranormal, how-to, self-help, or erotica (or any combination thereof).

Unless part of a blog tour with a specified date, I will post reviews within two months of receiving review copies unless otherwise noted to you.

THE RUBRIC:

1 EPIC FAIL. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
2 Apparently ANYONE can get published these days…
3 Well, that’s time I’ll never get back…
4 Meh. I’m surprised I finished it.
5 Fair. Not great. Not bad. Just ok.
6 Enjoyable. Not a waste of time.
7 It was an strong read, and I’m looking forward to reading more from this author
8 I have a strong urge to buy everything this person has ever written
9 personal pantheon of prolific prose-makers
10 CLASSIC. BRILLIANT. NO WORDS.

UPDATE:  I just got a new job!!!!!!   I’m now working at another educational publisher, this one owned by the same parent company of Penguin and Random House.  I have no contact, professional or personal, with anyone who works for any of the Penguin or Random House imprints.  I don’t feel like this presents a conflict of interest, as what I do professionally is completely unrelated to either publisher.  I will continue to read and review books published by these houses…but I also promise to make a note of my loose connection to Penguin/Random House when I do 🙂

Beauty/style:

I blog about products I buy, use and love…or have purchased and wasn’t that thrilled about.  All opinions are my own.  No one has given me anything for free to write about…yet.  But if/when they do, I will absolutely say so in the post.

I am not a licensed cosmetologist, or a cosmologist for that matter,  and know what I know through YEARS  of reading Vogue cover to cover each month, devouring beauty and style blogs like it’s my j-o-b, and good-old-fashioned trial and error.
